Why I Believe in Global Education

From Lima to Los Angeles to Madrid: Why I Believe in Global Education

When I think about where I started and where I am today, one idea comes into sharp focus: the transformative power of international education and cultural immersion.

In 2008, I was a soon-to-be-graduated Philosophy student in Lima, Peru. My worldview was deeply shaped by humanistic inquiry, ethical reasoning, and the perennial questions pertaining to life and society. What I lacked, however, was exposure to larger societal frameworks, different organizational models, and alternative benchmarks of progress that shape how other parts of the world engage in education, work, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration. That changed when I was offered an internship in Los Angeles at an educational and cultural exchange institution.

That moment changed everything.

What began as a modest internship quickly evolved into a career-defining journey. Through the rotational program which was offered to me, I was immersed in different departments focused on international relations, admissions, account management, and business development. Eventually, and with the company’s sponsorship, I received an H-1B visa and joined the organization as a full-time team member. Promotions followed, and after years of commitment, I was filing for a green card and promoted to Director of Operations. All of this began with a leap of faith: stepping -boldly, I may add- into a new culture, a new system, and a new way of thinking.

If you ask me why I believe so deeply in cross-cultural, dual-perspective, global education, it’s because my life is a direct product of it.

Working in an organization with 17 nationalities represented by its staff taught me more than any textbook ever could. It rewired my understanding of understanding, of working together to achieve common goals. It proved that creativity thrives when worldviews collide. It reminded me that excellence is not the product of homogeneity, but of contrast.

This is the foundation on which we built International American University – Madrid.

At IAU-Madrid, our programs are intentionally designed to offer more than academic rigor. We offer a gateway to global opportunity. We begin in Madrid, steeped in European culture and critical analysis, and we can culminate in Los Angeles, a city defined by innovation, entrepreneurship, and diversity. Our students don’t just study business; they live business—across hemispheres, time zones, and cultural paradigms.

We pair the pragmatic, hands-on American teaching style with the deep contextual and historical awareness of European education. Our pedagogy is grounded in research from Carl Wieman, Barbara Oakley, Susan Ambrose, and Peter Brown—drawing on proven strategies that emphasize cognitive science, interdisciplinary integration, and lasting knowledge acquisition. Our faculty are not just instructors; they are mentors, coaches, and international professionals.

We believe students thrive when they are:

We are proud to offer American-accredited degrees through TRACS,
recognized by CHEA and the U.S. Department of Education, and certified by SEVP to enroll international students under the F-1 Visa. This includes access to Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and even a STEM extension for up to 3 years and 8 months of work experience in the U.S.

In a world increasingly marked by uncertainty, polarization, and digital disruption, our mission at IAU-Madrid is simple: to form agile, globally minded professionals who can thrive in complexity.

This is not just a career. It’s a calling. And I invite you to walk this path with us.
